College Advice #3
Finish your assignments early; or at least start them early.
(In honor of today being the last day of my semester and the END of my FRESHMAN YEAR OF COLLEGE?!?! Time flew by!!)
Okay okay, I know what you’re thinking “DuH”... Well easier said than done. This semester I am enrolled in 18 units (6 classes). I also work 2 jobs, so time management is something I struggle with. I somehow have maintained straight As this semester, so I want to share how I do this and stay sane.
-A general rule that I go buy is start your assignments the same day or the day after they get assigned. A good number to go buy is ⅓ of the assignment. For example, if you have a 8-10 page research paper, that day or the next get started; if you have time! This could mean write 3 pages, or this could mean start researching sources. Every source you read create the citation and just write a quick summary of what you read. This has been very helpful to me because when I am ready to start writing I already have so much information and I don’t feel as lost.
-Another effective way to begin, especially if you feel lost or overwhelmed with an assignment is to just start a list. Brainstorming is really good for your mind. You just dump all your ideas out and later you narrow down all the good ones. Then you have a better foundation. A good way to do this is to start a “note” in your phone so you always have access when you think of an idea!
-I found this extremely helpful while being in 6 classes because I received a new assignment everyday. Of course sometimes it’s inevitable to turn in an assignment that is due at 11:59, at 11:58, but why stress yourself out? At least give this a try!
